A petition filed by former interior minister Sheikh Rashid against the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab has been dismissed by the Lahore High Court. Justice Shahid Karim stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was authorized to appoint the caretaker chief minister after the parliamentary committee failed to reach a consensus on a nominee. The petitioner's representative, Advocate Azhar Siddique, claimed that Mr Naqvi was involved in a media house engaged in a "regime change conspiracy" against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and was actively supporting the Pakistan Democratic Movement. Additionally, the petitioner accused Mr Naqvi of engaging in corrupt practices and of being a "convict." The petitioner requested the court to declare the appointment illegal and unconstitutional and to declare that the ECP and its members violated the constitutional and statutory requirements while appointing Mr Naqvi. The court also dismissed a similar petition filed by a lawyer.
The petition challenging the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi has been rejected.
