Imran Khan Sets Sights on Clear Majority in Upcoming Elections

Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan expressed optimism on Wednesday about securing a clear majority in the upcoming elections without any “crutches”. Imran Khan made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of around 300 members, including retired session judges, who called on him at his Zaman Park residence to express solidarity with the former prime minister. PTI sources reported that Imran sought their advice on legal reforms, stating that after coming into power again, his party will work on an agenda to provide justice and a sense of security to the common citizen. He added that his party was never reluctant to engage in dialogue and deliberations, but the announcement of the fresh election would be “the only agenda of these negotiations”.

Babar Awan, a senior PTI leader, also spoke to the media after the meeting with Imran Khan, stating that President Arif Alvi could either return the unconstitutional piece of legislation to parliament or send a reference to the Supreme Court (SC) for validation. Awan also criticized the National Assembly, calling it non-representative and stating that deadly herbs and turncoats had drafted an unconstitutional piece of legislation to clip the powers of the top judge. He emphasized that if the government tried to make any unconstitutional law, it could be turned down by the president as he had the power to ask the apex court for its opinion and endorsement. Awan further added that the president also had an option to convey that subordinate legislation could not amend the constitution, citing Articles 238 and 239, which clearly state that it was a constitutional amendment.

In conclusion, Awan pointed out that there were 43 cases registered against Imran Khan just in Islamabad, and around 400 PTI workers had been arrested on terrorism charges, stating that the government was left with no legal or moral authority to govern if 400 terrorists were in the federal capital. He expressed his belief that Imran Khan's return and a change in Pakistan were not far away, citing his experience.
