The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has announced plans to challenge the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) decision to delay the upcoming Punjab province election. The PTI, led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has labelled the delay as "unconstitutional" and has vowed to take the matter to the country's top court.
The ECP's decision to postpone the election was based on concerns over security threats and financial issues, leading the commission to conclude that it would not be possible to hold the vote fairly and peacefully. However, the PTI has argued that the delay contradicts a recent Supreme Court ruling that the election must be held within 90 days of the assembly being dissolved.
The delay has further heightened tensions between the PTI and the government, and legal challenges are expected to ensue in the coming weeks. The PTI's decision to challenge the ECP's ruling in the country's top court underscores the party's determination to defend what it perceives as its constitutional rights, while raising important questions about the balance of power in Pakistan's political landscape.
