Chaudhry Parvez Elahi Calls for Shehbaz Sharif's Disqualification for Contempt, Following AJK PM's Disqualification

Former Chief Minister of Punjab and PTI President, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, has commented on the disqualification of AJK Premier Sardar Tanveer Ilyas for contempt of court, stating that it is now Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's turn to be disqualified on the same grounds. Elahi made the remarks during a meeting with former provincial ministers on Wednesday. He added that despite the court order, the federal government did not provide funds for holding the elections, as documented in a report submitted by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to the Supreme Court. The ECP report was also submitted against the caretaker Punjab government, and interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi will also face consequences for not providing the required election security, according to Elahi. The PTI president also accused PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif of sending Ishaq Dar to Pakistan with an "anti-national agenda" and to make the country default.

Separately, Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan has questioned the legality of decisions taken by the caretaker government in the province, stating that it is working beyond its mandate as it has issued transfer and posting orders of officers and resorted to the victimisation of PTI workers. In a letter sent to the caretaker Chief Minister on Wednesday, Khan alleged that the government's recent events reveal that the interim government is working with a prejudice towards PTI. "The threats are being hurled at a political party in the name of establishing the writ of state, raids are being conducted to arrest PTI workers," he said. The speaker urged the Chief Minister to take steps for "restoring public faith" in his government and immediately put an end to the victimisation of PTI leaders and workers.
