Imran Khan Raises Concerns Over PML-N's Alleged Threat Towards Chief Justice of Pakistan, Echoing 1997 Incident

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan has expressed concerns regarding the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz's (PML-N) alleged threat towards the Chief Justice of Pakistan, stating that the party is acting in a similar way to the 1997 attack on the top court. In a tweet on Friday, he referred to the 1997 storming of the Supreme Court during a contempt petition hearing against Nawaz Sharif, stating that PML-N is once again "threatening SC & CJP because they are petrified of elections".

The statement comes amidst the ongoing PTI petition against the delay in elections to the Punjab Assembly, where the Supreme Court rejected a request by Attorney General Pakistan Mansoor Awan for the formation of a full court bench. While addressing the common citizens through his tweets, Imran Khan urged people to come out in protest for the sake of democracy and the rule of law in the country. He also urged the lawyers' community to lead the movement, as they did in the 2007 lawyers' movement to protect Pakistan's Constitution and rule of law.

On the other hand, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has requested Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to constitute a full bench to hear the Punjab polls delay case. He warned that if the chief justice does not form a full bench in the case, the country may fall into chaos and anarchy, urging him not to "push the nation towards anarchy".

Political entities' actions that threaten the independence of the judiciary may be viewed as a breach of the rule of law, which can lead to an unstable political environment. It is important for all parties involved to respect the law and uphold democratic principles to ensure the stability and prosperity of the country.
