Ali Haider Zaidi, the PTI Sindh president, was apprehended from the party's Karachi office on Saturday following a so called "fraud" case filed against him at Ibrahim Hyderi police station. The FIR registered against him cites Sections 34, 506, 420, 471, and 468 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and alleges that Zaidi, along with two unidentified individuals, committed fraud against a property dealer named Fazal Ilahi. The complainant states that Zaidi borrowed PKR 180 million from him in 2013, pledging a property worth PKR 16.7 million as collateral, and promising to pay the remaining PKR 12.5 million within six months. However, Ilahi alleges that Zaidi failed to transfer the property's ownership to his name, and later it was discovered that the file of the property given to him by Zaidi was "fake". Ilahi has also demanded police protection for himself and his children. The PTI's provincial media department claimed that the police arrested Zaidi from the PTI Secretariat without a warrant, and confiscated mobile phones from the office. However, the police have not yet made any official statement on the matter. PTI Chairman Imran Khan has denounced Zaidi's arrest, alleging that it is part of the "London plan" to crush the PTI, while the Sindh Assembly opposition leader has demanded Zaidi's immediate release.
