Imran Khan Claims 'Reign of Terror' Not Controlled by PDM Puppets, Points to 'Another Force'
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has alleged that the "reign of terror" in Pakistan is being controlled by a force other than the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), the opposition alliance. In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Imran Khan recounted the arrests of several PTI workers and leaders in recent days.
"The way we have descended into becoming a banana republic where there is no rule of law and only law of the jungle, it is clear that this reign of terror is not controlled by PDM puppets, but by another force that sees itself totally above the law," he said.
Imran Khan further alleged that PTI workers were being abducted, and fake First Information Reports (FIRs) were being registered against them. He claimed that he himself has over 145 FIRs against him.
The PTI chief also cited the cases of PTI leaders Azhar Mashwani and Amin Ali Gandapur, who were recently arrested.
"The way we have descended into becoming a banana republic where there is no rule of law and only law of the jungle, it is clear that this reign of terror is not controlled by PDM puppets, but by another force that sees itself totally above the law," said Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf”
Mashwani, former focal person for digital media in Punjab, was picked up on March 23 on charges of criticising the Punjab police and the caretaker government for allegedly using high-handed tactics against party workers. An FIR was registered two days after his disappearance, and he was released eight days later following the Lahore High Court's directives.
Former federal minister Gandapur, on the other hand, was arrested outside the building of Peshawar High Court's Dera Ismail Khan bench on April 6. He was granted bail in one case on Tuesday but remains in police custody in other cases.
Imran Khan also claimed that the caretaker of his Bani Gala residence, cook at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore, and his security in-charge had been "abducted and tortured to try and update their software".
The allegations by Imran Khan come amid a tense political climate in Pakistan, with the opposition protesting against the government's policies. The government, on the other hand, has accused the opposition of trying to destabilise the country.
