The judiciary has been referred to as the last hope for upholding the integrity of the nation

District and Sessions Judge Phool Bibi has stressed that the judiciary is the last hope for the integrity of the nation. She made this statement while addressing a function of lawyers after administering oaths to the newly-elected cabinet of Timergara District Bar Association in Lower Dir on Tuesday. The event was attended by bar members, judicial staff, and several civil judges.

Ms Phool Bibi urged young lawyers to learn values and manners from their senior colleagues. She emphasized that while law can be studied in books, values and manners are not found in them. The district and sessions judge also called upon the younger generation to recognize their importance in nation-building.

She highlighted the importance of coordination between the bar and bench for the rule of law and noted that the country is going through a crucial time. She urged the legal fraternity to recognize the sensitivity of the current situation and play their part in ensuring justice.

Bar President Kifayat Yar Bukhari assured the audience that all issues faced by the bar would be resolved with consensus. He expressed his belief that politicians and state institutions are responsible for the current mess.

Meanwhile, the University of Malakand chapter of Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) staged a rally on Tuesday to protest against the closure of the University of Peshawar and demanded its immediate reopening. The IJT leaders, Hafiz Hanifullah and Maaz Khan, addressing the rally, said that educational activities had been suspended at the University of Peshawar for the last month due to a boycott by the faculty. They highlighted that students were suffering and urged protesting teachers to end their strike so that the university and its affiliated colleges can be reopened.
